Abstract

The documents of the missionaries sent by the Holy See to medieval Moldavia are of major importance for a better understanding of the Catholic communities belonging to this part of the world ruled by the Catholic church. The nature of the recorded testimonies is varied, the anthroponomical material that can be found in the so-called “Codex Bandinus” being exceptionally useful for the current study and revealing important numbers of Catholic communities of Romanian origin during the reign of Vasile Lupu((1634-1653),and not only of Hungarian and German origin as some researchers believe.
